It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to Muaniweni College website.  My name is Sanjelesh Abay Nand and I hail from the province of Ra in the western division of Viti Levi.  I have served in numerous school as an assistant teacher, head of Languages department, a vice principal and principal respectively.    The purpose of this webpage is to provide parents, students, community and well-wishers with easy access to a wealth of information on our Muaniweni College programs, policies and activities.

Very briefly, Muaniweni College is located in the interior of Naitasiri about 40 minutes from Nausori town the students are mostly from farming back ground.  Muaniweni College, previously known as Vunicivicivi Junior Secondary School was established in 1974 had made a lot of evolution in the last 48 years. It is also not without its own challenges. Flooding during the rainy season, dust and shortage of water during the dry season are only some of the many challenges faced by this remote school as a whole.  The major challenge for the school and the entire universe was the pandemic (Covid 19) but collectively we have been through it.

Moreover, I am indeed impressed by the commitment of the school committee, staff and students to the provision of an excellent all-round education.   I salute the former principals especially Mr. Gajend Pratap Prasad for his visionary leadership and all the developments he has nurtured in this school with the assistance of his staff members and the college management committee.   As his successor last two years ago, I know I have to fill a big shoes and up keep to the expectations hence I am sure that with the support of my hard working teachers I will combat all the hurdles.

Furthermore, our primary goal at Muaniweni College is to help all students achieve their dreams and find success in pursuing life goals. We are unconditionally committed to providing the best possible educational program to our students. We believe that there are numerous opportunities, both within our curricula and through extracurricular activities, for our students to gain the skills that will allow them to be successful in their lives after high school.

My vision for Muaniweni College is to continue an ideal school environment where students feel safe, comfortable, challenged and engaged in class (whether that is in person or online).  Students and staff will celebrate core values and each other.  Teachers will feel supported in their teaching and inspired to try new things.  Teaching and assessments will be standards- based, instruction will be data-driven, and collaboration will be purposeful. Our school will stay impeccably clean and beautiful, parents will be involved in school activities and classrooms, and teachers and parents will work collaboratively to support their students.

I urge to remind all the parents and guardians of our students here at Muaniweni College that you are your child’s first and best teacher in the following skill areas in order for them to be successful citizens of this nation:

  • The value of wanting to learn what is being taught.
  • The self-discipline to practice it over and over again to know it.
  • The guidance to always do their best work.
  • The attitude that if at first you don’t succeed, try, try, try again.
  • The belief that their education is a priority in their life.
  • Being organized and neat in their work.
  • Being a responsible student.

It is important to note that values and characters are best taught by parents.  The school’s role is to enforce the values, character and work ethic that children learn and develop at home.  Research shows that the most important variable in children’s success in school is the parents involvement in their child’s education.  The following are some ways parents can be involved in their children’s educational life:

  • Talk with your child everyday about the school program.
  • Discuss about their school work.
  • Check their homework regularly.
  • Be available to assist with their homework.
  • Stay in touch with the teachers concerned and discuss your child’s academic and general performance in school.
  • Be a friend to your child so that he/ she trusts you and shares about anything.

With a long and rewarding history of achievement in education behind us, our school community continues to move forward together with confidence, pride and enthusiasm. The college stakeholders will continue to work together for the betterment of our students of Naitasiri.

Together we can make Muaniweni College one of the best learning institute and hope that we all will a fruitful year.  Blessed 2022.
